Aerial Shoot

Yesterday I had the opportunity to shoot some aerial photos. Click here to see the results!
The pilot, who is the wife of the Associate Pastor at my church, is finishing flight school and was kind enough to let me come along on one of her lessons. It was an incredibly clear day, perfect conditions for shooting.

The Plane

Since this was a lesson, it (intentionally) wasn't always the smoothest ride. The instructor had her practice short-field takeoffs, stalling, and engine failure landing. That was definitely a thrill!

Going Down?
When you shoot from an airplane, you have to keep in mind that the plane is moving faster than it may seem, and it is also vibrating. To counteract that motion, you generally have to use either a fast shutter speed (at least 1/500th, depending on the focal length) and/or lenses with image stabilization. I have not yet purchased any IS lenses yet, so I relied on a fast shutter speed, which works fine.
